Why did I decide to freeze dry?
After having my first baby 15 weeks early, I quickly grew my stash of over-supply breastmilk. I knew there had to be a way to preserve the milk more efficiently and effectively. I also had to find a way to fortify (add extra nutrients) my baby's breastmilk since he was in the less than .1%ile after a birthweight of 1 lb 5 oz.. I knew I didn't want to use formula, so extra breastmilk calories it was. I got in touch with my lactation consultant and the freeze-dry spark was ignited! I felt as if I could offer this service and help others after countless conversations with mamas who either needed supplemental breastmilk or needed a way to preserve milk.

How does it work?
1. Freeze - milk is frozen
2. Vacuum - milk is placed in a vacuum chamber to reduce air pressure
3. Sublimate - gentle heat turns the ice to vapor, removing all water content without thawing
4. Package - resulting powder is packaged (good for 3 years unopened / 30 days once opened)

*In simplest terms, I remove the water for you to re-add when convenient. This is a 72+ hour process.

How does bagging and pricing work?
Milk is packaged into multi-use bags that are comparable to formula cans. My goal is to offer a competitive price that is much more reasonable than other online freeze dry options ($1-$2/oz). I also want to stay consistent and fair, and the best way to do so is by fluid ounce. To have your own milk freeze dried, the cost is .35/oz (minimum 200 oz). To buy freeze dried breastmilk ("donor milk" - only if available), the cost is .60/oz to factor in the cost/time of the supplier (similar to the price many pay for liquid donor milk) . The milk will come to you in powder form, and you simply re-add the water that was removed. Similar to formula, but better!

Do you ship?
I am located in Watertown, SD. Milk must come to me frozen, so I prefer local drop offs and pick ups. If you can get the milk to me frozen, I am open to figure out shipping!

How do I use the powder to make a bottle?
*You will need to use a kitchen scale (grams of powder per oz of water)*
Each "recipe" will differ slightly - I will give you the powder to water ratio that will reconstitute your milk! Keep in mind - for 100 fluid ounces freeze dried, the powder reconstitutes back into 100 oz.. the math is simple!
